Perhaps you have noticed over the last few years, the price of laser printers has slowly dropped, even though the quality of the machinery has increased.  One would think that newer models with exciting features and multiple purposes would cost a fortune.  However, the prices have remained reasonable over the period of growth in the electronic equipment industry.

Manufacturers realize that some homes and most offices absolutely require a high-quality printer with strong toner, such as Samsung CLT-M409S toner, that they can rely on to last for years and print professional documents.  Big companies like HP and Xerox have continued to make some of the best printers on the market, but the price tag is still affordable for potential buyers, even those that have a tight budget.   But don’t be fooled- these big manufacturers are not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts.

The low upfront cost of the printers is just a ploy.  Even though these companies are not making much money from your initial purchase, when it comes time for you to get new Lexmark C5240KH toner cartridges, for isntance, they appear to have you trapped.  If you need HP toner, you most likely get it from HP.  These cartridges do not cost manufacturers a lot to make, but they jack the prices up.  It’s a similar concept to drinks and food at a baseball game.  There are no other options than the overpriced products they sell.

The solution, however, is quite simple.  Remanufactured toner is available from third party vendors.  These cartridges have been rebuilt and have been used before.  However, when they are being remanufactured, new parts will sometimes be put in to replace old, used parts.  These toners cost much less than OEM Okidata 43324401 toner, for instance, and they still produce the same quality and quick output rate.  The manufacturer may try to tell you that using non name-brand toner will void your warranty, but it is actually against the law for them to do that.
