Finding the right resources for toner cartridge recycling
If you are a busy office professional, adding yet another item onto the to-do list can be hard to manage. Adding something like printer toner cartridge recycling is important because it helps your office go green and keep a little bit of trash out of the landfill. Getting those toner cartridges out of the trash can and into the hands of a refiller company or recycler can be easy, as long as you put in a little time at the beginning and minimum effort throughout the year.
Finding the right sort of recycling for your toner can take a bit of effort. There are some manufacturer recycling programs, like the HP Laserjet toner recycling program. The program is free, and it’s easy to use the HP toner cartridge packaging and free mailing labels to get those cartridges out of your office and to the recycling center. For this sort of program, you use the box from new cartridges to mail in the old cartridge, or you can be provided with a bag or box from the company if you cannot find the original packaging. These manufacturer recycling programs will often provide the postage for the cartridge and will also recycle the packaging for you, making it even that more effective and beneficial for the environment.
There are other programs out there run by independent businesses that will actually pay you for your cartridges. Sending in your Brother toner cartridges can earn you a few bucks here or there, which is a great incentive to actually recycle. The only catch is that these cartridges cannot be refurbished or refilled, as they will then be rejected. They can still be recycled in another way, but you will not get money for them and they will not be refilled.
The best part of these programs is that you can then purchase these refilled cartridges at a discount. However if you run out of your Xerox 8500 ink or any kind of Xerox solid ink, there will be no recycling to be done. The solid ink sticks melt away to nothing so clearly they cannot be reused.
Finally, there are also in-store recycling programs at office supply stores. At these stores, you can just drop in your old cartridges to be recycled. This is convenient if you often visit these supply stores – you can just load up your trunk with old cartridges and drop them off on your next visit. These sorts of programs take a bit more effort, as you cannot just mail off your old cartridges. As long as you can remember, it’s another great way to get rid of those cartridges in an earth-friendly way.
