How to make your printer more affordable

Regardless of which manufacturer you have decided to purchase a printer from, chances are, you got a good bargain.  These days, major vendors, such as Xerox, HP and Lexmark have lowered the price of printers in an effort to attract consumers.  The lower-budget units will typically be inkjet models, such as the HP 92 ink printer, which have lower capacities.  However, prices have even started dropping for high-end laser printers.  The reason for the lower upfront cost is for manufacturers to lure a user into purchasing the device, then jack up the prices on replacement ink or toner.

Whether looking for a large-volume printer for the office or a simple, photo printer for the home, replacement cartridges can be expensive.  Ink sticks for Xerox printers are even more expensive, though less expensive compatible ink is available.  With cartridges, however, there are two alternative options- compatible and remanufactured.  The remanufactured versions come from returned Epson ink or Brother TN580 toner cartridges that are refilled.  These tanks can only be refilled so many times.

There are certain companies that offer refill kits, meaning you will have to remanufacture your cartridges by yourself.  This is not recommended due to the potential danger a leak or bad tank can cause.  Canon FX-8 toner cartridges that are remanufactured come with a warranty and a guarantee that the quality will be just as good as the OEM.

Searching online is the first step, as it is the best forum for most third party vendors.  You can compare prices while shopping, and buy in bulk to get wholesale prices.  There are plenty ways to get affordable HP Q6473A toner, you just have to be willing to put a bit more effort into it.  Local office supplies stores may have what you need, but they will charge you as much, if not more, than the manufacturer.  Your best bet is shopping online for compatible or remanufactured versions of the ink or toner that you need.
