How to pick ink and toner cartridges

It would probably surprise most people to learn how much they are actually spending on printer ink and toner. It is no secret that these products are very expensive, often costing up to fifty dollars for an individual cartridge, but what exactly are you getting for all of this money? To answer that, the average inkjet cartridge is roughly forty percent plastic, forty percent metal, and twenty percent everything else. The last twenty percent is made up mostly of foam, sealants, and least of all actual ink.

So why is ink so expensive? Well, the short answer is that it simply is not. Manufacturing the actual HP 1010 toner cartridges is expensive and very resource dependant, but there is simply nowhere near fifty dollars worth of ink in that little cartridge. In fact, the average thirty dollar cartridge contains about one-fifth of an ounce of actual ink. Thirty dollars for ten milliliters of ink is ludicrously expensive and is actually not necessary at all. There are other solutions to the problem of high-priced printer products, and with prices like that it is obvious why they are growing in popularity.

Purchasing recyclable cartridges and buying remanufactured ones is a great way to spend less while doing your part to save the environment. The average toner product, such as an HP toner cartridge, takes over three gallons of oil just to product. When this is added to the transportation costs, its carbon footprint is gigantic. Luckily, about ninety-five percent of ink and toner products, like Canon MF6590 toner,  are completely recyclable or reusable, others are not, like Xerox Phaser ink cartridges,  Even better, these products usually advertise that they are recyclable and it is easy to pick them out.

Another great way to save money is to buy remanufactured products. These products usually cost thirty to fifty percent less than name brand OEM products, and they are a lot easier on the environment. Furthermore, there is no reason to not trust their reliability. These cartridges undergo tests that ensure they perform equally well, or even in some cases better than OEM cartridges. Picking a printer type and brand can be truly confusing to most people. There are so many choices and so many claims being thrown around. One easy choice, though, is recycling. It is a great way to save a bunch of money while helping the environment. And honestly, what more could printer shopping do for a person besides providing a reliable product while saving money and being a better person.
