Sending your kid to college

Posted Thursday, February 9th, 2012 by .

The moment you have feared and simultaneously dreamed of for 18 years has finally arrived- your little baby is going off to college.  All of the money you have saved over the years is about to be gone to better her life and education.  There are a few major things you need to make sure she has when you drop her off and head home to your empty nest.  Besides the basic life necessities, such as shampoo and a toothbrush, it is super important to get her a printer.

College students print more than most people outside of an office environment.  Even with technology advancing to a digital world where kids write a paper and email it or load it to a flash drive, printing things on paper is still crucial.

Some teachers still require students to hand in a printed final copy of a paper in class.  Many teachers use emails to post assignments and students have to print that out and hand in the completed homework in class.  Sometimes even the syllabus is posted online for students to print out as a map through the course.  Study guides, cheat sheets and even a collection of notes to review the discussion in class can be printed.  All of these printable documents will undoubtedly help students get better grades and retain more knowledge.

Having an efficient and reliable printer in her dorm room will enhance the academic experience for your daughter, and probably her roommate too.  If you choose to get her an inkjet printer with photo printing capabilities, as she makes friends and starts attending events or parties, she will be able to print pictures.  Maybe she wants to join a sorority and the printer will allow her to make flyers for the upcoming ball or flag football game.  Regardless of the direction or major she goes for, having her own printer will help her along the way.
