Different colors for toner cartridges

One item of interest that some printer owner’s do not consider when purchasing a toner cartridge is the toner color. For color printers this is one extremely important facet of the printing process, so when you are replacing the cartridges, it will make your purchasing decisions much easier. Although discussing a toner cartridge is not the most exciting thing to do, it is an integral portion of what you need to do.

There are four common types of toner colors that you will need to be aware of. These four colors are the cyan toner, the magenta toner, the yellow toner, and the black toner. For some models, such as some Canon toner or more specifically HP 1020 toner there are two different types of the black toner, but this is not true for most machines. Some of you might think that these four colors limit your printing selection, but if you print any color page, then you will notice that these four colors can produce any hue necessary.

The cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black) colors form the CMYK color model that most printers utilize. Using the combination of these four colors, you will be able to produce whatever color you desire. So why is black called the key color? This is because whenever you use the four color printing, the printing plates of the other three colors in the CMYK color model are “keyed” with the black toner’s key plate.

One interesting fact about the cyan, magenta, and yellow toner is that the combination of the three can never create black. The best color it can produce in this situation is a dark brown. Also, any printing with just these colors will result in a longer drying process. If you do not wish to encounter this longer drying process, then make sure all four cartridges are being used to their full extent.

As previously mentioned, there are other models available with different printers than the CMYK color model, like some HP toner that comes in 6 cartridges. One popular method that is used by toner manufacturers is to include under the color addition and removal a gray component. There is not a name for this strategy, but it is a popular alternative method.

In the end, the printer manufacturer will determine what printing model you will be using. You main objective is to have everything that you will need at the ready for your color printer. Be sure to have an additional ink toner cartridge ready in case you will need to replace any in the future.
